Spectacular beaches & national parks
Narooma has several great beaches – why not visit a different beach each day? Narooma Surf Beach, located just minutes from the centre of Narooma, has views to Montague Island and the spectacular Glasshouse Rocks. A popular beach, it is patrolled in summer by Narooma Surf Life Saving Club. Smugglers Cove beach is next to Narooma Beach, while Bar Beach is to the north of Narooma and Carters Beach is a little further north again at Kianga. Narooma’s South Bar Beach is protected and netted, and popular with snorkelers and divers.
The Eurobodalla National Park and the Batemans Bay Marine Park offer fantastic walking, swimming, surfing, whale watching and fishing.
Montague Island
Montague Island, 9 km off the coast from Narooma, is a fabulous day trip and provides the opportunity to swim with seals, snorkel with sea horses, take a guided lighthouse tour and explore the island. Hundreds of seals and more than 90 bird species call Montague Island home. From September to November, whales come in close to Narooma, with high sighting success rate during this time, including pods of up to ten seen around Montague Island. The lighthouse is almost 140 years old and retains most of its original features. Climb to the top for 360 degree views. Several operators travel to Montague Island each day and can be booked at the Narooma Visitors Centre, a short walk from Apollo Holiday Units.
Wagonga Inlet
The name Narooma is from the Yuin word for ‘clear blue waters’ and looking at the water in the Wagonga Inlet it is easy to see how Narooma got its name. The Mill Bay Boardwalk is a delightful walk that leads to Apex Park and Bar Beach, with schools of fish, rays, dolphins and seals often seen. Wagonga Inlet has great fishing in the inlet and also access to ocean fishing. A number of operators provide cruises on Wagonga Inlet and these can be booked at the Visitors Centre.
Explore the Area
Apollo Holiday Units at Narooma are perfectly located as a base for visitors to explore all the Eurobodalla has to offer. To the north, Bodalla is around 20 minutes from Narooma, with Mogo and Mogo Zoo a further 30 minutes on. Less than 30 minutes south of Narooma are Mystery Bay, Tilba and Gulaga (Mt Dromedary), with Cobargo and Bermagui a little further on. All these are great day trips from Narooma.
